Taguan- Unisex Softstyle T-Shirt

Taguan is the Filipino version of hide-and-seek, a classic children's game where players hide, and one person (the "it" or taya) tries to find them. This game is a staple in Filipino childhood and is often played outdoors, especially in neighborhoods or schoolyards, during the late afternoon or early evening when there's enough hiding space in the shadows.

Players decide who will be the "it" (taya) through a quick randomizing game, like jack en poy (rock-paper-scissors) or by volunteering. The taya closes their eyes, faces a wall or tree, and counts out loud to an agreed-upon number (e.g., 10, 20, or higher). Usually, the taya would chant out,

"Tagu-taguan, maliwanag ang buwan. Tayo's maglaro ng tagu-taguan. Pag bilang ng sampu, nakatago na kayo," and proceeds to count.

This chant roughly translates to "Hide-and seek, the moon is bright. Let us play hide and seek. When I count to ten, you must all have hidden"

Meanwhile, the other players scatter to find hiding spots. Once the counting is finished, the taya starts looking for the hidden players. When the taya spots a player, they typically shout the hider's name and run back to a base point to tag them. If a hider reaches the base before the taya can tag them, they are safe for that round. The game continues until all players are found. The first person caught might become the taya for the next round, or the players may take turns.
